Precious

Solid Movie. Enjoyable. I thought it was going to be extra deep, extra raw, and extra sad...and it was all that, but it was extra funny too. That's what made it even more realistic, because even though individuals can be in harsh situations in life, still all the emotions are felt, laughter being one of them. I highly recommend. I was about to read the book, and I think I still will. It's only just over 100 pages, so hopefully it will fill in the holes. Go see it and let me know what you think...

  1. I know that Oprah was talking about Monique giving an Oscar worthy performance. What do you think? I know Slumdog Millionaire was a surprise hit last year. Do you think this movie will do the same thing?

  2. Monique did give the standout performance of the movie. I'd say she was worthy of a nomination. The thing is, I don't think that performance was too hard for her to play...but she did a great job. Whenever you can hate someone on the screen, and their part is meant to be hated, they're doing something right. But you felt sorry for her a lil too, but mostly hate.

It may be a big hit b/c it's not all dark, you laugh your ass off too.

  3. Nice. I'm going to try and see it this weekend. Looking at the clips I must agree, Monique seemed like she wasn't doing too much acting.... or maybe all black women possess the ability to go "there" lol...

  4. I agree. I don't think it takes too much ability to go "there". Same with black men, Malcolm X was a much harder role than Training Day. But yeah, go see it, let me know what you think...

  5. sort of scary watching bits and pieces of a woman i call mama on the big screen. i have to agree--- for some reason it didn't appear for Mo`nique to put much effort into something that seems so nature in her performance, but i still give props where it's due. i hope the movie rec's some kind of award for the story line and/ performance of the cast.
